Introduction
I retired early as a partner from a legal firm in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2006. I have substantial experience and knowledge of the law and business affairs through working with clients for over 38 years in fields such as employment, business and maritime law, personal injury and litigation. I provided a professional service to Government departments, insurers and companies based throughout the world. My CV PAGE gives more details.
In my career as a lawyer I developed strong analytical and problem solving skills through working with clients and their other advisers on devising and implementing development change plans and project management, writing reports for senior managers and appearing before Courts and Tribunals.
I am able to offer a professional service to legal firms and companies, especially in the UK and Spain, which is tailored to the needs of a particular organisation, and which may be of short- or long-term duration. Among other aspects I am able to assist with the drafting and review of documentation, conducting legal research, drafting of reports, investigation of claims and incidents, managing a project, knowledge management, advising on due diligence, good governance and controls to monitor and minimise legal risk, as well as contract administration.
I currently hold part-time appointments as Secretary to the Boards of Governors of Stow and Cardonald Colleges. In these posts I organise the meetings of the Board and advise the members, who are trustees of charities, individually and collectively on matters including good governance, the law of charities, the personal liability of trustees, recruitment, training and mentoring of new members, regulatory matters as well as general training and developments in the sector. I recently wrote a paper on the Bribery Act 2010 for Colleges and spoke at a seminar for the Boards of Colleges on the topic. I also have experience of Board evaluation. I am a trained Mentor and Mediator.
I am an external consultant to the Further Education Development Directorate of the Scottish Funding Council. In this role I am available to assist Colleges in the Scottish Further Education sector in relation to the administration of their Boards of Management and Committees, recruitment and training of members of the Boards, good governance practices and audits of their work.
I am happy to speak with you about any specific project or task when we can discuss your requirements and a fee structure.
