I had a specialist practice in the area of liquor licensing law where, on behalf of a major UK retailer, I appeared for them at Licensing Boards throughout the country when there were objections either to an application for a new licence or to its continuation or renewal. I also appeared for them at criminal trials.
At the time of my retirement I had been the firm’s Senior Court Partner for 20 years. I had responsibility for supervising the provision of litigation services from three locations, as well as advising and supporting other colleagues in their work.
I was also the partner designated to deal with complaints about the firm’s provision of legal services, a post which is required by The Law Society of Scotland in each practice.
I was also involved in accountancy and business aspects of running the firm from the time I became a partner.
I organised and, along with colleagues, spoke at seminars for clients on matters of interest to them in my fields of practice, such as meeting the test of due diligence and being a ‘fit and proper person’ in liquor licensing areas.
